The Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine invites applications for the tenure track position of assistant or associate professor, Department of Occupational Therapy. The University of Alberta’s Department of Occupational Therapy, one of three departments in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, is among the largest occupational therapy education programs in Canada. The faculty comprise a diversity of research profiles in life role areas such as childhood, family and disability, healthy aging, mental health, social justice, health equity, neurophysiology, military and veterans wellness, sleep, assistive technology, sexuality and disability and health professions education. Faculty members actively participate in research institutes and centres across the university, including the Women’s and Children Health Research Institute , Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute , Heroes in Mind Advocacy and Research Consortium (HiMARC) , and they also have research partnerships with the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital , the largest free-standing, comprehensive tertiary physical rehabilitation hospital in Canada Location - North campus Position summary The Department of Occupational Therapy offers an entry-to-practice Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MScOT), a 26-month program designed to develop leaders in occupational therapy through excellence in research, education and citizenship. Using state of the art technology, the Department operates a satellite site in Calgary, delivering the MScOT program through a combination of videoconference and face to face instruction. Approximately 125 students are admitted each year, 100 in the Edmonton cohort and 25 in the Calgary cohort. Faculty members also supervise and mentor MSc and PhD candidates in the thesis-based programs in Rehabilitation Science , offered through the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. The vision of the Department of Occupational Therapy is to advance occupational science and the practice of occupational therapy through excellence in scholarship, teaching and service. The Department of Occupational Therapy is looking for a candidate who will contribute to the Department’s goal to enhance occupation-centred research, teaching, knowledge dissemination and service. Qualifications The successful candidate will possess a doctoral degree in health sciences, social sciences or a related discipline and will have completed or be near completion of a successful post-doctoral research period. Also, the candidate requires a strong background in research with demonstrated potential to maintain or establish an independent, occupational science relevant, research program that fits within the priorities of the Department and the Faculty. Applicants must demonstrate a collaborative and respectful team building ethos. It is an asset for individuals with a background in occupational therapy and who are eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists. The University of Alberta has recently undergone restructuring as part of the University of Alberta for Tomorrow (UAT) initiative, launched in 2020. Now, the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine is part of the College of Health Sciences , along with 5 other faculties focused on interdisciplinary health research, teaching and service, to advance the full spectrum of human health and wellness in individuals and communities around the world.
